A Partner For Unplanned Pregnancies

By January 12, 2016No Comments

Scared, confused and uninformed, Joel’s birth mother made plans to abort him. She had made her decision – or so she thought.

A friend encouraged her to call Florida Baptist Children’s Homes, and Annette Edewaard.

Upon his birth, they named him Joel, which means “Lord is God.” Every day Kevin and they tell him the decision she made for him was made in love.

Florida Baptist Children’s Homes (FBCH) touches the hearts of mothers and positive choices for young women facing unplanned pregnancies. The program ensures caring individuals are available to talk with soon-to-be mothers as they make life-altering decisions alone.

Every choice is vital. Consider the fact that more than 70,000 abortions were documented in Florida in 2014, according to the Alan Guttmacher Institute and the Centers for Disease Control. That means each day an average of 198 unborn children are terminated in Florida.

Sanctity of Human Life staff know moms-to-be must be informed of their choices to knowledgably be able to make life-affirming decisions.

“One of our goals is to help the mother make a life-affirming decision to either parent her child or place the child in an adoptive Christian family,” said Mary Lou Hendry, the Director of Sanctity of Human Life. “Many teen moms choose abortion because of fear, confusion or simply because they are uninformed of their options.”

Just like with Joel’s story, the preservation of a child’s life can be the beginning of an amazing adoption story.

FBCH’s adoption and Sanctity of Human Life ministries strive to reach the birth mother’s heart with the hope of Christ, while providing them with the truth about the development of the child they are carrying.

There is always someone willing to talk with or meet with women and ongoing involvement in a child’s life.

For churches and individuals who are passionate about the sanctity of human life, there are many opportunities for volunteers to be connected with Pregnancy Resource Centers.

Organizing baby bottle drives, providing administrative assistance or giving a financial gift to FBCH are just a few ways people can make an impact.

Other options include: serving as a peer counselor or client advocate, coordinating clothing and the health of the unborn. At “going out” events, women experiencing unplanned pregnancies can get free ultrasound screenings.

Thanks to volunteers and Religious Liberty Commission.

FBCH is always appreciative of volunteers who minister to future mothers and who showcase Christ’s love through the unity of the church!

The Sanctity of Human Life program will continue to provide every opportunity possible for women to find hope and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14 NIV)
