Mark your calendar!

By December 19, 2016 No Comments

Are you ready for that at your house? We are also very near to entering a whole new year! Are you ready to welcome in 2017? If you are like me, you are already putting dates on the new calendar and considering all that the new year holds for your heart and home. So, while you are thinking of the new year and adding important dates to your calendar, please be sure to mark Friday, February 24, as the day to participate in our annual Women of Compassion event. We are already planning a wonderful day for you to enjoy — a day of fashion, fun, fellowship and food.

Hello, Beautiful! is our theme for this year’s Women of Compassion event, based on the following scripture: Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel — rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NKJV)

Our speaker this year, Shari Braendel, will share her insights with us on how we can develop our own personal beauty both inside and out. Shari is “a fabulously fun fashionista with an encouraging heart and a vibrant effervescent spirit who keeps her audiences laughing while inspiring women of all ages to embrace their God-given beauty.” As a successful image consultant, Shari has worked with many women who did not recognize the beauty God gave each of them. An engaging speaker, Shari communicates her passion for Christ and her passion for building a woman’s self-esteem through fashion. Does this kind of encouragement sound like something you could use in your new year? Now, while we all like to look our best, isn’t it interesting that these verses remind us that our focus needs to be on the inside rather than outside. It reminds me of another verse from 1 Samuel 16:7, “man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.” As women, we often use outward appearance as a judgement of ourselves or others. Yet, the LORD is looking at the thoughts and intents of our hearts and tells us that developing a heart for the things of God is very beautiful and precious in His sight.

Not only will we learn tips and tricks on how to look our best, but a fashion show, featuring girls and house moms from Florida Baptist Children’s Homes, will be hosted by Top Buttons. It will be a bright day of sharing smiles, enjoying lunch, learning more about who you are in God’s eyes and how you can encourage one more child through the ministries of Florida Baptist Children’s Homes. It’s something you won’t want to miss! So, mark your calendars, invite a friend and plan to join us on February 24, 2017. New this year, if you register online, you will have the easy opportunity to send an “e-vite” to a friend. After the holiday rush is over, please look for your invitation in the mail and register to join us for “an inspiring gathering where fashion meets faith.” I will look forward to seeing you there!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
