WOC Amie SpanoHi, I’m Amie Spano, and I’m a member of WOC council. It’s been a very busy summer for our family, not because we’ve traveled across the country in an R.V. (that was last year) or vacationed long on the beach. We actually knocked on doors, waved signs at intersections, made phone calls, and attended fundraisers and other political events.  My husband, Ross Spano, is running for the Florida House of Representatives, District 59, and our children and I are helping in his campaign. My heart and Ross’s heart is FOR children, and he shares the passion we as WOC members have for the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes.

Saturday August 11th, Governor Rick Scott and Secretary Wilkins were on the FBCH Lakeland campus to meet and greet our kids and wish them well for the upcoming school year. They passed out donated back packs and school supplies.  It had been a while since there has been any political activity on the campus, and the kids were really excited.  The campus was bustling to make sure it was in tip top shape for their visit.

It’s back to school time again.  You know what that means….school shopping!  It seems the school supply list gets bigger and bigger each year.  In my house, I’m organizing the supply list for each one of my children into one, in order to have a somewhat sane shopping experience.  Imagine having 10-12 children to shop for on a very limited budget, or trying to take them to the mall for school clothes.  Imagine wanting each child to have the opportunity to pick out that perfect outfit to help them feel confident and special on the first day of school, but not having the means to do so.  You can help the FBCH ensure that children have what they need as they return to school.

Plan ahead for “Cups of Kindness,” Friday, February 15, 2013, our annual WOC forum. With a Victorian tea-party theme, this dainty day of delightful treats will also serve up a nationally known speaker, Lisa Harper. Harper has spoken at national women’s ministry events such as Women of Faith and Focus on the Family conferences. She is described as a witty storyteller and easy-to-relate-to Bible teacher. Speaker Priscilla Evans Shirer describes her this way: “If anyone can help us to hear, understand and receive the truth of scripture it is Lisa Harper. Her God-given ability to not merely teach the Word but package it in a way that stirs the heart and calls to action is incomparable. When she speaks ears perk up.”
