Florida Baptist Children’s Homes is hosting a dedication and fun-filled open house on July 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3446 Bouwer Court in Palmetto, to showcase one of two homes that are available to a family looking to make an impact in the lives of children.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the home, enjoy a bounce house, face painting and learn about becoming foster parents.

“The purpose of this home is to keep sibling groups together,” said Terryn Streets, Director of Foster Care at Florida Baptist Children’s Homes. “Being split apart is one of the most detrimental things for kids in these environments.”

The hope in offering a renovated, rent-free house that is specially furnished to accommodate six children is that it will eliminate potential barriers for families who are considering becoming foster parents. Ideal candidates are parents of two children or less who currently live in Sarasota, Manatee or DeSoto County.

There are nearly 2,000 children in the foster care system in Southwest Florida and the need for foster parents is growing. Florida Baptist Children’s Homes continues to partner with Guardian Angels of Southwest Florida to encourage people to help meet that need.

For more information on the open house or becoming foster parents contact Terryn Streets at (941) 357-7970 or Terryn.Streets@FBCHomes.org. People can also visit the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes website at www.FBCHomes.org.
