Swilley Residence's living room.

The Pensacola campus is our newest residential facility. The 5,500-square-foot, family-style residence is named for its principal benefactors, Novice & Virginia Swilley. Other local business men and women and trades persons handled the construction and furnishings — many of whom donated or substantially discounted their labor and materials.

Attached to this residence is a Social Work office, to receive and support children in residence, offer counsel, adoptions and foster care services. We also maintain a social work office in nearby Milton.

This Pensacola property was purchased with funds from the sale of a 13-acre Santa Rosa County tract that the Pensacola Bay Baptist Association donated to the Children's Homes in 1995 for the purpose of locating a campus there. But, with the Association's permission, the Children's Homes sold the property because it wasn't ideal for that purpose. The Pensacola Bay Baptist Association is one of 50 associations throughout the state that comprise Southern Baptist churches in the Florida Baptist Convention.

Florida Baptist Children's Homes had maintained a Social Work office in the Pensacola area since 1976 to evaluate potential clients for placement in our other facilities throughout the state, and for counseling and referrals. In 1989, during a long-range planning process, we identified a need to locate a campus in this part of the state.

Are you a former resident of Florida Baptist Children's Homes? If so, you may want to catch up with some old friends. Check out our list of former residents' e-mail addresses, and list your own so that others may find you.
