LAKELAND, Fla. – Last summer the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes received a call from a concerned father of a teenage girl who was experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. The man’s daughter had already decided to abort her unborn child. Understandably the girl was scared and concerned about her future plans for college and hopes of a professional career. The Children’s Homes central Florida campus in Lakeland and a local pregnancy resource center counseled the young woman who eventually made the decision to carry her pregnancy to term. “When Megan’s father Rick called our office last summer he was understandably distressed. His teenage daughter was pregnant and out of desperation had already made the decision to abort the child,” said Eron Green, administrator for the Children’s Homes’ Lakeland campus. “Our social workers worked closely with Megan and put her in touch with a local pregnancy resource center where she was able to see an ultrasound picture of her unborn child. It was this experience coupled with the information we provided that helped her make the life-affirming decision to carry her child to term.” The Children’s Homes’ maternity social worker maintained contact with Megan and her family throughout her pregnancy in order to provide emotional support and to make sure she followed her prenatal care plan. On December 30, 2008 after 18 hours of labor and a C-section, Megan gave birth to a baby boy named Allan. Green shared the joy that he and his staff felt when they received the news of the baby’s birth. “We were absolutely thrilled. Megan’s dad sent us pictures of the new baby. He kept telling us ‘thank you for making this blessing possible’ and ‘thank God for this little bundle!’This baby is definitely a miracle when you consider that he was just days away from being aborted.” “Whenever I look at his picture the words of his father keep ringing in my head ‘thank God for this little bundle!’” Note: The family’s last name has been withheld in order to guard their privacy. |
