LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Baptist Children’s Homes is launching its annual Mission Backpack campaign to collect backpacks for disadvantaged and orphaned children in Florida, Haiti, and in other locations in the developing world. The campaign is a partnership between the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes, Orphan Outreach, and Moody Radio stations. The Mission Backpack drive in Florida will take place from July 5-31.
In addition to backpacks, the Children’s Homes will also be collecting hygiene kits to go into the backpacks. After the backpacks are collected they will be packed with a new Bible from Lone Sheep ministries and toy bears provided by Family Christian Stores.
Backpacks and hygiene kits can be donated online at the Children’s Homes’ website at www.FBCHomes.org. Also at their website you can see a list of collection sites around the state where backpacks can be delivered.
“Last year we collected over 4,000 backpacks for disadvantaged children in Florida and in the developing world. We hope to collect even more this year. Haiti will be a priority location for the distribution of backpacks this year. We know the need there is great,” said Dr. Jerry Haag, president of the Children’s Homes.
“Backpacks not only help meet a basic need, but they also help to get kids excited about school. Something as simple as a backpack shows a child that they matter and that people care about them.”
“We will be delivering the backpacks and school supplies on some of our international childcare mission trips. We invite people to come with us on a mission trip to help deliver backpacks and see how great the need is for orphaned children in the developing world,” Haag said.
