Maternity Care & Counseling


As a positive alternative to abortion, Florida Baptist Children’s Homes provides free Maternity Care services to girls and women who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Specifically:

Maternity Foster Care

In some situations, it may be determined that an unwed pregnant girl would be best served by living in one of the Christian, private Maternity Foster Care homes we license and maintain throughout the state. Maternity foster parents serve as substitute parents, offering a supportive family lifestyle through the pregnancy and, in some cases, the postpartum period.

Newborn baby Allan, shown here cradled in his mother’s arms benefited from the Sanctity of Human Life program. Allan’s mother was 17 years old at the time of her pregnancy and contemplated an abortion as the unplanned pregnancy threatened her future plans for college and a professional career.

Counseling and Referral

Our social workers/case workers counsel girls and young women to help them: (1) get prenatal care, (2) understand the physical, emotional, social and financial challenges that come with pregnancy and birth, (3) decide whether to parent the baby or choose adoption, and (4) deal with any postpartum challenges that may arise. The social workers/case workers may also counsel the baby’s father or extended family, where appropriate. In situations where we cannot fully meet the needs, we can make a referral to other agencies that may be able to help. There is no charge for our Maternity Care counseling or referral services.

Postpartum Care

After the baby is born, Florida Baptist Children’s Homes’ social workers/case workers can help guide the new mother regarding physical, emotional, social or financial challenges that may occur during this period, regardless of whether she has chosen parenting or adoption. We can also help her care for her baby, establish an independent living environment, access social services or financial assistance, continue education, find a job, etc. Typically, there is no charge for our postpartum services.
